Carat, the measure of weight (as opposed to karat, which refers to the quality of gold), is computed by dividing the number of points by 100 (for instance, a 25-point diamond has a quarter of a carat or 0.25 carats). The larger the diamond, the higher the carat, and the rarer it is. |
