The princess cut engagement ring has a square cut diamond with 90 degree angles on each corner. It has a tremendous amount of brilliance. The Princess cut is a relatively new diamond cut - it was introduced in 1960 by A. Nagy, a London cutter, as an economic cut for flat diamond crystals (accroding to Eric Bruton FGA, the author of "Diamonds", p216). The Princess Cut was designed for getting maximum brilliance from a square cut.
